What do you find is your biggest obstacle as you begin watercolours?

What frustrates you the most…when you feel like you might give up.. why is this?

Have you tried to paint before and abandoned it .. if so why what this do you think?

I would love to hear your personal fears and struggles when starting watercolour.

Painting is EMOTIONAL because you are tapping into the creative part of your soul.

Worries, fear of judgement, frustration at not getting it straight away… its all perfectly normal!

How can I help you overcome these initial blocks?

Do you ever just stare at a blank piece of paper and wonder “What am I going to paint today?” only to end up scrolling Instagram or YouTube for your next jolt of inspiration? Do you then end up not being very productive by overthinking it and worrying about create a whole picture?

Or maybe you’re not actively practicing your creativity and just don’t know where to begin with finding your style..

I would love to hear what you find challenging and how you overcome this or what inspires you.

While designing the Love Country Studio, I felt it was really important to include an image library so that you have a place you can look for some random inspiration.

My personal tip is not to overthink it. This may sound obvious but I was really guilty of this.

When I was learning to paint, working full time, I found that Sunday afternoon was my time (around the general housework and other must-do jobs) I found that I would get myself in a bit of a tiz feeling like I wanted to have a finished painting. I scrambled to decide what to try and paint, flicking through books and all that wasted time meant that I felt under pressure looking at the clock and often not really getting anywhere. The reason, I can now clearly look back and see, was because I put way too much expectation on myself.

So my advice is to slow down, enjoy whatever time you have and focus on the FUN and JOY of painting. If you only have an hour, just grab something simple like an object or a photo and just relax and play at it. Don’t worry what it’s going to look like as a finished piece. You can come back to it and continue.

Perhaps earmark a day to be your painting time and plan ahead.. clip out some pictures or have something prepared so when it comes to it you can just dive straight in without making that “what do I paint” decision.

I do this now , I often find my best paintings are unrushed and I’ve been waiting for the right day to come around when the phone is quiet and I am “feeling” it. Then I find I’m prepped and ready to get into it. Thes paintings tend to come out better when I am feeling unrushed and I can get into the zone and paint happy!
